Google Home users no longer need another voice assistant to communicate with GE products.
GE Appliances has announced that it is the first manufacturer to offer a full suite of Wi-Fi connected kitchen, laundry, and comfort appliance collections that work directly with Google Assistant, without the need to communicate through another voice assistant.
Previously, GE Appliance owners would need to use GE Appliances’s Geneva Home Action to communicate with Google. This step is no longer necessary; instead of saying, “Hey Google, ask Geneva Home to preheat the oven to 435 degrees,” home owners will be able to say “Hey Google, preheat the oven to 435 degrees.”
“For GE Appliances, connected leadership starts with consumer tech that is purposeful and practical,” says Shawn Stover, vice president of GE Appliances’ SmartHome Solutions team. “Working with Google, we have created a more natural way to communicate with your appliances that allows you to speak your request like you would with any friend or family member who’s helping around the house.”
GE Appliances’ connected product collections include refrigerators, ovens, ventilation hoods, dishwashers, air conditioners, and washers and dryers across five brands: Monogram, Café, GE Profile, GE Appliances, and Haier brand products.
“Over the past year, we've been working closely with top brands like GE Appliances to make it easier than ever to do your daily chores by controlling your home appliances, from dishwashers to refrigerators, directly with the Google Assistant," says Michele Turner, director, Smart Home Ecosystem, Google. "Our integration with GE Appliances lets people speak naturally to the Google Assistant to get things done quickly around the home using just their voice to control GE Appliances’ full suites of connected appliances.”
All of GE Appliances’ connected products use the U+ Connect program to integrate seamlessly with Google. This also allows the appliances to connect with other U+ Connect partners, including Nest Labs, Innit, and Drop.
